Lisa Nandy MP, Robert Peston, Stephen Welton and Martha Lane Fox set for The Big Creative UK Summit: Investment for Growth, as landmark event highlights extraordinary potential of UK’s Creative Industries
Today, Tuesday 4 March, The Big Creative UK Summit: Investment for Growth will celebrate the extraordinary investment potential which lies within the UK’s creative industries, with a day of impactful keynotes and bold panels, as well as pitching, presentations, panels and essential networking for investors and creatives alike.
The Summit, taking place at King’s Place, London, is designed to showcase the impact of regional growth programmes, including Create Growth Programme (CGP), Creative Enterprise and the North East CCIP.
This year, for the first time, the Summit will feature an expo of more than 60 creative businesses – working across fields such as fashion, games, content, media, film and visual art. All businesses showcased have received support from vital programmes delivered in regions up and down the country.
The Summit is a unique event, where investment-ready creatives can connect with over 150 investors: there to explore opportunities on the ground and explore potential solutions to unlocking real growth in the sector.
Keynote addresses will be delivered on the day by Lisa Nandy MP (Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport); and Robert Peston (Political Editor, ITV & Co-Host, The Rest Is Money).
This event is delivered with support from the Create Growth Programme.
The creative industries are an economic powerhouse, growing at 1.5 times the rate of the economy at large, and accounting for 5.7% of UK GVA.
In 2021, the creative industries generated as much as 14.6% of all revenues from UK exports of services and 2.7% from UK exports of goods. They are also major employers, responsible for 2.4 million jobs, or 7.1% of the whole economy.
Programmes such as CGP are designed to stimulate this growth further. Originally launched in 2022 by the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in partnership with Innovate UK, CGP is designed to support creative businesses to explore and secure commercial investment opportunities in 12 English regions.
Creative Enterprise is a bespoke set of initiatives for ambitious screen businesses to access connections, training and networks to achieve business growth. Since 2019, over 480 businesses have taken part in 45 programmes.
